I taught Spanish 2 last year and will teach it again last year. My Spanish 2 curriculum is a mix of story units (based on cortometrajes and Sr. Wooly songs) and some authentic resource-type units (one from adiostextbook). Because my department is still somewhat traditional, and I am not the main Spanish 2 teacher, you will see that there is still some explicit grammar taught in Spanish 2. Mostly I use Martina Bex resources for that part of the course.

My Spanish 3 curriculum is a mix of story units (based on authentic songs and Sr. Wooly songs), lots of activities authentic resources, and a lot of pre-AP type of activities (cultural comparisons and interpretive reading and listening activities with authentic resources). Because my department is still somewhat traditional, and I am not the main Spanish 3 teacher, you will see that there is still some explicit grammar taught in Spanish 3, but I am doing less and less of that. (A big thanks to Arianne Dowd for making my Spanish 3 curriculum soooo much better this year!)

ResponderEliminarThank you so much for sharing these! I am teaching Spanish 2-3-4. In Spanish 2+3 we are tied to Realidades and in Spanish 4 we use Sol y Viento. My department is VERY large (we have 4000 students) and everyone is very grammar translation oriented. I am desperately trying to improve my teaching, as I see that the kids are really not acquiring the language. I was curious what chapter of realidades your department uses in Spanish 2 and Spanish 3, just to better understand where you are coming from with your personal units. Again, thank you so much for sharing! I want to be a better teacher and I want my students to "get" and love the language! I just feel so overwhelmed because my only model was grammar translation and that's all I see in my department. Thank you so much! Erin

EliminarWe no longer use realidades, but when we did we divided the level 2 book up between Spanish 2 and 3. AND we did a couple of readers and a movie unit too.

EliminarI'm entering my 2nd year as a Spanish 2,3,4 teacher, and I'm definitely feeling overwhelmed as I get ready for this coming year. I feel like my first year was really weird and confusing. Your materials are so helpful to me as I try to learn to plan a whole year. I used to teach adults in weird settings like jail and community programs where there was no continuity, so I'm really struggling with how to plan. Thank you!
